Church and Manse Renovation

In 2007, CPC formed a Capital Projects Committee to look into the possibility of grant funding from the Colorado State Historical Fund (SHF) for renovation of our church and manse.

In 2008 CPC was awarded a grant in the amount of $144,376 for facility renovations.  We agreed to provide an additional $48,129.   We began the process of reviewing bids and choosing a general contractor.  In September of 2008, Holley Construction began work on the exterior of the sanctuary and worked through the winter whenever possible.  Pat's talented crew removed old paint from the old lap siding on the sanctuary and replaced rotten boards with matching lap siding.  The building was then given three coats of primer and two coats of new paint that matched the existing color.  Tempered glass was placed over the stained glass windows to protect them.

In 2009, Pat's crew continued work with new matching lap siding on the Addie Williams Room and Darley and Warner Halls.  They also replaced all the windows in these additions.  The siding was painted to match the sanctuary.  Work then began on the 1879 manse and 1882 steeple.  The manse was sanded, rotten boards replaced, and new paint applied.  Challenging work then began on the steeple.  Scaffolding was erected and Pat's crew began the laborious work of stripping old paint or replacing deteriorated wood.  As work progressed upward, it was necessary to bring in a man-lift in October.  New steel supports were placed inside the steeple to assure its stability.  Old rotten wood was replaced with new wood milled to match the 130-year-old siding.  It was sealed and painted.  All but the very top part of the steeple was completed.  However, when winter arrived, work was postponed until the Spring of 2010.

In May 2010, a talented crew led by Mike Olivieri began work on the upper most section of the steeple.  A 60' man-lift is being used to replace rotten wood with primed and painted poplar that was milled to exactly match the old wood.  We are now excited to see the completion of renovations on God's wonderful church here in LC!

Columbarium

Plans continue to construct a columbarium (a vault for safekeeping of the ashes of deceased saints) on the church property. The session approved use of the memorial garden on the east side of Warner Hall as the location for the columbarium and ordered 72 niches.  After considerable evaluation, it was decided by Session to consider other areas for the placement of the columbarium.  New drawings will be made before a final decision is made. The columbarium will be a beautiful and sacred memorial to those who rest there so a soothing and peaceful location is very important.

John Roose is directing the placement and construction of the columbarium.  Leo Coniglio has been hired to begin building the stone structure to hold the niches in the Spring of 2010.  Niches will be offered for purchase when the structure is completed.
