Youth Programs

Community Presbyterian Church participates in a rare ecumenical youth ministries program with the other four churches in Lake City.  The program is coordinated and directed by the Lake City Student Ministry Council, with representatives from all of the town’s churches and is chaired by Nancy Chambers.  The Lake City middle and high school youth have been ably served by two full-time youth directors, Seth and Crystal Dady who meet several times each week for Bible studies, discipleship growth, and fun.  They also attend winter retreats and summer camp, perform service in Lake City, and engage in an annual mission trip project.  Seth and Crystal have been called to a new service with a team of three other familier in Boulder, Colorado.  We will miss their smiling faces and outstanding work with the youth and wish them God's blessings in their new ministry.  A farewell letter from them is found below.

2010 Mission trip to Show Low Update
“Here is an update of our recent mission trip to Show Low, AZ with the Lake City youth group.
Our first day in at AICM (American Indian Christian Mission) was cold and rainy, and our major job for the week was digging a drainage trench for the staff cabins. Without complaining, the kids jumped right into the cold, sticky mud and began pick-axing and shoveling with all their strength. Afterwards, though they were chilled and dirty, they went to ask what else they could help with. They mopped the gym, cleaned the office, stocked the kitchen, picked up trash, and helped with meals. We were amazed that this group of 6 kids, who gave up their spring break, were so willing to serve without anything in return. Their work ethic continued like this for the rest of the week.
Each afternoon, we visited the Apache Indian reservation on the Blue Bus. It’s a bus equipped with games, roller skates, beads, toys, and a basketball hoop on the back and is used for outreach to the kids on the reservation who do not attend the school. The staff at AICM drive out every day, gather 20-70 kids and share the gospel. They asked us to lead the devotional for the week, so the kids sang some silly songs and then shared the gospel with the wordless book colors and verses. They all wore t-shirts that coordinated with the verse they were sharing: Black-sin, Red-Christ’s blood, White-cleansed from sin, Green-growth as a believer, Gold-eternity in heaven. After they shared, they played hard and loved on the kids for two hours. They youth were greatly impacted by the poverty on the reservation and the precious little ones who desired so much love and affection.
As a team, we spent time in the Word every morning and evening. Seth put together a study in James and the Gospels on humility and servant-hood. We had quiet times alone every day and had family time at night to discuss what we learned.
Thank you all so much for your prayers and financial support through the flamingo fundraiser. It was a huge success! The money raised enabled us to pay for part of the kid’s way to the mission trip as well as our own expenses getting there and back. We will be bringing it back this summer, so start thinking about who you would like to flamingo!
In His grace,
Seth and Crystal Dady”

.EPIC. Youth Update:
"The school year is flying by and we can hardly believe we've been here almost 3 years already.  After some evaluation this summer, we have done some restructuring on how we feel like God is calling us to do ministry.  Jesus ministered in different ways.  Sometimes it was to the masses; healing the sick, performing miracles, and teaching.  Other times it was by doing life with His goofy disciples.

We are doing life with the youth of Lake City.  We want to be in their lives more, to love them to Jesus.  For us this school year, "doing life with them" has taken form in weekly one-on-one meetings with the kids; asking them the hard questions, answering their questions, and always pointing them back to our Savior.  We are still meeting on Sunday nights, as well as hosting weekly gender specific and age group specific Bible studies.  Those times have also been fruitful!  With winter quickly approaching, our annual winter camps are right around the corner.  This is always a highlight of the year for the youth in Lake City.

God has been so good to have allowed us to be a part of His ministry here.  Please continue to partner with us and pray with and for us, for the youth of this town to know Jesus.  Our prayer is that their lives will reflect the image of their Savior as a result of meeting Him face-to-face!  Thank you for your support of this ministry and God bless.

January_2009:
"Here is our January 2009 update on what's going on with .epic. youth!

We are just returning from a refreshing Christmas break and as we plan the details of this spring semester we are excited to begin our regular youth activities again!

We will continue meeting every Sunday night at 7pm at the Presbyterian Annex with the middle school and high school kids for .epic.  This is our main meeting time which includes snacks provided by members of the community, games led by our volunteers, a time of praise and worship, and a Bible teaching and discussion by Seth.

Monday nights are our high school Bible study nights.  The girls meet at the Dady's at 7pm and are still studying women in the Bible such as Ruth, Rahab, Mary, and Eve.  The guys meet at 7pm at the Annex and are currently studying Psalm 119.  The junior high Bible studies are a new addition to our schedule as of last fall and they are going great!!  The girls meet at Jordan and Charity Johnson's house at 6:30 every Friday night and are discussing a book called "Do Hard Things".  The guys now meet Saturdays at 5:30 pm at the Annex to study the same book.

Wednesday nights this semester we will resume meeting at people's houses around the community for Hang Nite.  Every Wednesday we will alternate having a high school or middle school Hang Nite.  Hang Nites are designed to be a time of fellowship, relationship building, and a chance to get to know members of the community as a youth group.

We are looking forward to our middle school and high school winter camps which are coming up in late January and February.  High Altitude is the high school camp we attended in Fraser, CO; it is January 30-February 1.  Snowbound is the middle school camp in Buena Vista, CO; it is February 20-22.  Every year it has been an incredible time to hang out with the kids outside of Lake City and challenge them with the truth of the Gospel.

We are working with a group of students who are interested in furthering their relationship with the Lord and taking on some leadership responsibilities in the group.  Seth is working with three of the high school guys on leading worship and Crystal is meeting regularly with two high school girls who are leading/interested in leading a middle school girl's Bible study.

Please continue to pray for us as we seek God's will for this youth ministry and abide in Him for all of our strength, wisdom, and hope.  We ask that you pray for the kids in town.  That their ears and hearts would be open to His love and truth and lives would be changed by the Gospel of Christ!

In His grace,
Seth and Crystal Dady"
