I hope you’re all well this week. It feels like spring here in Lake City this week. The days are growing longer and the Sun feels warmer on my face. It’s hard to believe that the summer season is nearly upon us.

Tomorrow, Sunday, April 14th, we’ll gather together for worship at 10:00am in the CPC sanctuary as we celebrate the Third Sunday of Eastertide. Below you’ll find the order of worship for the service and the Zoom links.

Congregational Meeting
We’d like to announce a congregational meeting set for Sunday, April 28th directly after the service. At the meeting, the members of CPC will vote on our 2024 budget and the Minister of Word and Sacrament’s Terms of Call.

Hey Everyone!

I trust your Easter Octave has been filled with lots of celebrating the life we have in Christ Jesus through good fellowship, good food, and good desserts. If you haven’t been celebrating the Easter Octave, you should definitely start. It’s blessed week for Christians around the globe.

To that end, I’m thrilled to share that Grace Fellowship has invited us to join them for an Easter Octave Dessert Potluck this Saturday, April 6th at 6:30pm. Join us on Saturday evening at Richard and Rachel Moore’s home for a time of fellowship, Christian friendship, and dessert.

This Sunday, April 7th, we’ll also be joining together for the Second Sunday of Eastertide. During worship we’ll be celebrating communion during the service, so if you’re joining us via Zoom, please bring your communion elements to the broadcast.

Following the service, we will NOT be having a first-of-the-month potluck, but we will be having fellowship. That’s it for the notable announcement for the week. Here are the rest, followed by your links and the order of worship for the service.

Grab a couple of palm crosses from basket in the narthex on your way out and place them around your home and all over Lake City as a reminder of our call to love one another as Christ loved us.

Good afternoon everyone!

I hope and pray that this Holy Saturday has been one of peaceful reflection as we wait in the “in-between” day that bridges the agony of Good Friday and the jubilant rejoicing of Resurrection Sunday.

Don’t forget that tomorrow morning, Sunday, March 31st, the churches of Lake City are still having an Easter Breakfast in the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 8:00am. Bring an egg-based casserole, a bow

l of fruit, or something sweet and join us for this communal time of fellowship and food.

Then, at 10:00am we’ll gathering in the CPC sanctuary for our Service of the Resurrection! Following the service, will be a time of fellowship with coffee and cookies.

For those who missed it, we had a blessed time during our Sacred Meal of Remembrance on Maundy Thursday. Many thanks to those who helped prepare and clean up afterwords.

Happy Palm Sunday Eve everyone,

It’s hard to believe that we’re almost at the end of the lenten season. Tomorrow, March 24th, we’ll gather with the other Lake City churches for our first Palm Sunday Community Worship Service. The service will be at the First Baptist Fellowship Hall at 10:00am. With palms in hand, we’ll sing our “Hosannas” to our triumphant King. Also, don’t forget that our offering tomorrow will go to supporting CCS (Christian Community Service). After the service, please join for a time of fellowship with coffee and cinnamon rolls. For those unable to be present in person, the service will be broadcasted via Zoom through the link provided below.

Although our programs will look different this week, don’t forget that we’re still having our Wednesday weekly Bible study on March 27th at 5:00pm. We’ll wrap up our Sacred Days series by exploring the holiest day of the year–Resurrection Day (also known as Easter).

Below you will also find the schedule for holy week. Please note that if you’re planning on attending the Sacred Meal of Remembrance on Maundy Thursday, March 28th, you MUST RSVP ASAP. Tomorrow during the Palm Sunday Community Service, I will be inviting the larger faith community to join us. There is limited space for this event so, PLEASE let me know if you are coming by texting me the names of each of the participants.

Hey Everyone,

I hope this post finds you all safe and warm, but not too warm. I hear that it’s scorching in Texas this week, while we’re getting inches of snow. This coming Sunday, March 17 is a special Sunday. In addition to being the Fifth Sunday of Lent this year, it’s also St. Patrick’s Day. In honor of this remarkable saint, we’re going to have an Irish themed St. Patrick Potluck after the service. So break out your best Irish fare or just make a green dessert and join us in Darley Hall, directly after the worship service this Sunday.

This Sunday, you will also be able to sign up for our Sacred Meal of Remembrance, which will take place on Maundy Thursday, March 28th. Look for the sign up sheet in Darley Hall on Sunday.

Just a reminder that we will NOT be having games this Monday, March 18th but we are still having our Weekly Bible Study at 5:00pm on Wednesday, March 20th, however, this week’s study will ONLY BE ON ZOOM. This week we’ll continue with our Sacred Days series as we look at Good Friday.

Well, it’s that time of year again, that horrid Sunday when we turn the clocks forward to Daylight Savings Time. So don’t forget to set all your clocks tomorrow night, lest you be late for church on Sunday morning.

Hey Everyone,

I hope the month of March has already been a blessing in your lives. I look forward to seeing many of you in worship tomorrow, Sunday, March 3rd, which is the Third Sunday of Lent. Tomorrow we’ll be celebrating the Lord’s Supper during the worship service. If you’re joining us online, please bring your own elements to the broadcast.

Despite being the first-Sunday-of-the-month, we will NOT be having our monthly potluck tomorrow, Sunday, March 3rd. This month, St. Patrick’s Day falls upon a Sunday, so we thought it would be fun to have an Irish themed potluck on St. Patrick’s Day Potluck on Sunday, March 17th.

Our weekly programming is starting back up this week with Games Up Here on Monday, March 4th, from 7:00pm until 8:30pm. This week we’ll also see the return of our Wednesday Bible Study on March 6th from 5:00pm to 6:30pm in Darley Hall and on Zoom. For the next four weeks, I’ll be teaching a four-part series on Holy Week. We’ll be exploring Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Resurrection Day. If you’ve ever wondered about the theology, history, and practice of these sacred days, join us for the next four weeks on Wednesday nights.

Hey Everyone,

Well… we’re finally home after a grueling 26.5 hour drive straight from Columbus, Ohio to Lake City. We arrived this afternoon, which completes a 49 day journey of moving my mother in with us here in Colorado. Without a doubt, the past seven weeks have been a time of growth for all of us. I’m certain that you’ll hear more about our adventures in the weeks to come.

To say that I’m disappointed that I wasn’t able to start this year’s season of Lent with you all, would be an understatement. We’ve missed being in worship with you in person, I’m thankful that tomorrow, February 25th, we’ll be with you for the Second Sunday of Lent.

Hey Everyone,

I hope this short post finds you all well as we enter the lenten season. Even though it’s just begun, I feel I’ve been experiencing a bit of a lenten journey myself over the past five weeks. Without question, I have a newfound respect and admiration for those of you who have travelled down these paths before me. I can’t tell you how much we appreciate your prayers and support during this season.

The light is growing brighter at the end of the tunnel and we’re planning on leaving early next week. This means that I’ll be away from the pulpit for one more week. Fortunately, I’m blessed with an incredible colleague in Lake City and a stellar team of elders. Many, many thanks to Lyn Lampert for filling in for me, and also much gratitude for CPC elders for making sure things run smoothly while I’m away.

This Sunday, February 18th will be the first Sunday of Lent, during which we’ll begin Christ’s journey toward the cross. This week, we turn to the Gospel of Mark, as he narrates the wilderness temptation. If you haven’t read the passage in sometime, I’d encourage you to read the lectionary texts for this week, which can be found at the end of the downloadable online Order of Worship below.

Hey Everyone,

Happy Ground Hog Day! I’m not sure if our furry little friend saw his shadow today, but I am sure that I feel like I’ve been living in the movie Groundhog Day for the past few weeks. Every day feels like the same here in Columbus… wake up-sort stuff-pack stuff-sort stuff-toss stuff-sort stuff-go to bed. Sometimes, it’s difficult to remember what day of the week it is. It’s been a challenging journey no doubt, but we’re finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and looking forward to returning to Lake City.

You might have heard that we’re extending our time in Ohio. The task was a bit bigger than I anticipated, so I’ll be away from CPC until the week of Valentine’s Day. Lyn Lampert has gracious agreed to continue in our Sunday worship leadership. He’s done such an incredible job filling in for me during my time away. Thank you Lyn. And, many thanks to all of the elders who have served in so many little jobs throughout the week to keep our community growing in faith. We’re blessed with a great team of elders.

Given my delayed return, the downloadable Orders of Worship for the next two weeks–February 4th and 11th–can be found below. Keep in mind, although you won’t be celebrating communion next week, our first-of-the-month-potluck is still happening. Join CPC for a Valentine’s themed potluck this Sunday, February 4th, directly after the morning worship.

Finally, I want to express a huge “thank you” for all of your prayers, emails, texts, and words of support that you’ve offered over the past few weeks. It’s comforting to know that many of you have gone through similar transitions with your parents. Despite being a well-trodden road, the path can sometimes seem bewildering. Knowing we have a faith community holding us in prayer means the world to us. We miss and love you all.
